C&D Disposal

The C&D processing facility at Iron City Express receives, sorts and recycles construction and demolition debris. We are dedicated to conserving landfill space and reducing the impact of producing new construction materials, so we make every effort to sort loads for reuse and recycling. In addition, we provide LEED services and reporting that documents your landfill diversion and recycling efforts in accordance with your project’s certification.

Allowable materials

  • Concrete 
  • Wood (from buildings)
  • Asphalt (from roads and roofing shingles) 
  • Gypsum (the main component of drywall) 
  • Metals 
  • Bricks 
  • Glass 
  • Plastics 
  • Salvaged building components (doors, windows, and plumbing fixtures) 
  • Trees, stumps, earth and rock from clearing sites

Prohibited Materials

 Any load that is contaminated by prohibited waste will be rejected when scaling in.Mixed loads that are contaminated with non-C&D materials will bypass the sorting facility and the waste properly disposed of according to Pennsylvania law.

e-Waste Policy Iron City Express C&D Processing Facility

The Construction & Demolition (C&D) processing facility on location at Iron City Express only receives loads defined as C&D waste.  Any load that is observed to be contaminated by any other waste, will be rejected when scaling in.   At times, there are loads which are contaminated by waste other than C&D that is not able to be observed before the load is dumped. Any non-C&D waste will then be bypassed in the sorting facility and properly disposed of.   One of these types of prohibited materials is classified as e-waste.  In accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania laws, any e-waste that has been bypassed will be collected and properly recycled at an approved facility.  The approved facilities closest to us are E-cycling in South Side or various Best Buy locations, as per the Allegheny Health Department “Recycling Resource Directory”.

 

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania defines e-Waste as:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Computer monitors
  • Computer peripherals
  • Televisions
